Most channel decisions get made on habit, not maths. The Channel Showdown puts three growth options - digital ads, an in-house salesperson, and traditional radio or offline - on the same commercial footing. Plug in your average order value, gross margin, and close rate, and the tool shows the revenue each channel would need to deliver to be worth the investment over twelve months. It's not a prediction; it's a reality check.
What the numbers mean
Each channel is modelled on the cost it typically takes to reach and convert a customer in that medium. Digital ads assume a paid-media budget with tracked conversion. A salesperson assumes a fully-loaded cost (salary, super, tools, ramp-up time) with a realistic close rate against warm leads. Radio and offline assume a media buy with soft attribution - you pay for reach, not conversion.
The output isn't a winner and a loser. It's a break-even view: how many customers each option would need to bring in for the investment to pay back. The channel that needs the fewest customers to justify itself is usually the right first move.
Where the model has limits
This is a directional tool, not a forecast. It doesn't account for brand halo, referral compounding, or the lifetime value of a customer beyond the first purchase - all of which favour long-term channels. If you want a version that includes LTV, payback windows, and channel mix over multiple years, that's what a proper marketing strategy engagement gets you. Start here to sanity-check the direction, then get in touch when you want to build the model out.
